ABOUT US

Find the interesting in existing – we are your source of information, always looking for the extraordinary from the ordinary, the interesting in the existing.

We provide you with weekly reviews, news and views to get you engaged with what’s happening NOW. At Exist we care about culture.

Based in Oxford, United Kingdom and launched June 2020, Exist was born.

We are a group of 8 students, all studying Media, Journalism and Publishing BA (Hons) at Oxford Brookes University.

With our first academic year cut short due to the global situation, we have collectively decided to use our time productively. With a lot of focus at the moment on how fragile, important and meaningful life and the means to exist is, the brand Exist has been born.

We are your conservation starter, mind opener and platform for your opinion, we are Exist.

Meet the team

Harry McNeil

My reason for starting Exist was to improve my skills, focusing on my writing, designing, and communication, while working in a team, to create something respected and consistent. Applying what we learn from our course, I believe we can create something that we can all be proud of. Some facts about me are that I’ve always been more of a summer person, with the attraction of music festivals to going to the beach it’s hard for me not to be. Outside of my love for summer, I enjoy keeping active (especially at the moment) and my sport of choice has always been football, no contest. Other pastimes include relaxing on PlayStation, to going on a night out! Previous jobs have included working at Bombay Sapphire distillery, if you can’t tell, I love a drink. In my time there I worked on the bar, while saving money to go do what I always wanted to do, which is to travel. If you fancy putting your magnifying glass over the highlights of my life or would love to see what’s going on in my World, go ahead and follow my instagram.

Writing has always been my favourite thing in the entire universe: I love creating new stories, new characters, new worlds, as well as getting the chance to listen to other people’s voices and share them with the rest of the world; this is the main reason why I decided to move to England and study both Journalism and Publishing at Brookes. I’m a huge nerd – and if someone told me that scientists had found a way to extract dinosaur’s blood from mosquito fossils in amber and created a Park on a Central American island, I would leave everything on the spot and go breed Velociraptors. Considering that I don’t see any Jurassic creatures in my garden right now, I’ll settle down with my other dream of becoming a published author and having my bookcases shelves stuffed with several translations of my books. As a good Sicilian girl, my hobbies include drinking cappuccinos before 11 a.m, making the perfect Tiramisù, and cooking without a timer. You can follow me on Instagram (@martinacurrenti_), where I post memes that are funny only to me and pictures of my adorable German Shepard.

I was born in Brazil but I’m also half Belgian (yes I know, we have the best chocolate in the world). I love writing, but more specifically writing with a communication purpose. I think information is a key driver of today’s society and I want to be part of that communication process as I think it is vital it is done in the most relevant and understandable way possible. What I also love about writing and news broadcasting is the power we have to connect with other parts of the World by writing about it and making people aware there’s more out there than where they live. Being driven by this passion of connecting with other places and cultures, I love travelling and getting out of my comfort zone which is why I decided to come and study Media, Journalism and Publishing at Brookes. If you want to know more about me do not hesitate to follow me on instagram.

Bex Badman

I’ve always been a creative person; I love art, music and writing and over the years I’ve worked hard on music grades and work because I love putting my mind to something and making sure it’s the best it can be. I’m definitely a born perfectionist, but maybe that’s just the Virgo in me. Outside of uni I love being outdoors but you could find me in a beer garden trying every new flavour of gin as a bit of a passed time!! I’m also a born feminist, nothing interests me more than looking at books and films for ways women really show their power. I believe experiences create knowledge and I want my voice to be heard in the world, as someone actively looking to make it a fairer place, not just reading about it! Exist might be a good place to start. Check out my social media for a little bit more about me.

Looking back on my early years, I don’t recall wanting to be anything other than a journalist. I find writing in a communicative sense particularly exciting. I think being able to write a piece of writing that can completely change someone’s perceptions and opinions is incredible and something I wish to do on a daily basis in my dream career. This is exactly why I want to be a journalist. In short, I wish to write how I see the world through my eyes and to be listened to and heard. I want to be a reliable, inspirational source of knowledge and leisure for readers, somewhere they can be educated and inspired. My hobbies and interests outside of writing include going on nights out with friends (I do love a drink), going for coffee (a hazelnut latte), spending time with my (3!) cats and spontaneous adventures with friends. I’m particularly interested in our Environment, climate change, Feminism, space and all things to do with animals. I’m incredibly excited to be involved in Exist to showcase my skills and develop them. Feel free to follow me on my Instagram, @lucyforrexst, to get more of an idea about me as a person.
